How do you diagnose B12 deficiency?  Is it possible to have B12 deficiency if your blood serum B12 is within the reference range? If your doctor won't treat you, what can you do?

Can you get dependent on your Vitamin B12 injections?

Some people report that once they have started on the B12 injections (which makes them feel much better), when they stop they feel absolutely terrible - get all the symptoms worse.

Why does this happen?

At last - we have prepared a short protocol for treatment of B12 deficiency.

This can be used by all clinicians (especially those in primary care) and will ensure people receive consistent DIAGNOSIS, and TREATMENT.

This protocol applies to patients of all ages.  

We get lots of letters requesting advice, and most of them are too personal to post; but I thought this was a particularly interesting one.

The patient was due to have her two-monthly injection of cyanocobalamin, however she's been told that cyanocobalamin is no longer available and she'll have to take hydroxocobalamin.  The last time she had hydroxocobalamin it caused a terrible itchy rash.

I'm delighted to let people know that we've now been able to upload both a Treatment Protocol, and a revised version of the Observational Analysis.
